AISI 304 Stainless Steel
Definition
Austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel (18% Cr, 8% Ni) offering excellent corrosion resistance, non-magnetic properties after solution treatment, and good formability — the primary alloy for MIM Precision valve and plumbing components.
Why 304 for copper replacement
- Corrosion resistance in water, bathroom, and fire-sprinkler environments
- Stable pricing vs LME copper-linked brass
- Food/water contact compatibility when passivated correctly
- Weldability for sub-assemblies that still require joining
Typical MIM 304 achieves >7.6 g/cm³ sintered density with controlled carbon to maintain austenite.
